Bean, an orchardist and one of the developers of Almond Grove, was troubled by San Jose scale on his trees and built a better chemical spray pump, an important tool in the valley’s fruit-growing years.
His son-in-law David C. Crummey joined the business, and his grandson John Crummey expanded it; as the Bean Spray Pump Company grew, it became FMC, an international corporation.
